It’s unclear exactly how long the Battle Between Earth and Sky endured, but what can be certain is that Kalea was never again the same. Though the Arrivals were eventually eradicated, she was forever scarred, her people nearly wiped out. Little remained of the great civilizations, their knowledge and technologies lost to the destructive war. The few Tolterra that remained when all had settled disappeared deep within Kalea’s surface, falling into slumbers from which they never again awoke. Many believed that Kalea, too, fell that day, succumbing to the tremendous wounds the battle dealt to it. For many years, it seemed Kalea’s light had been extinguished.

But all was not lost. The people of Kalea who survived the devastation lived on, and over generations they began to rebuild their broken world, little by little. Over the years the natural life of Kalea began to regrow as well, sprouting tenacious new life in spite of the destruction. Eventually, these sprigs of life bloomed into colossal forests, reclaiming the skeletons of the old cities and taking them back into the earth. Despite all that transpired, Kalea lived on.

Or so the story goes.
