In the face of this new threat, Kalea fully awoke from its slumber, quaking and trembling with rage. They say that in the hours that followed, the Arrivals fell from the sky like vast meteors, blotting out the sun with their size. Kalea’s surface split open, spitting rock and flame into the sky. But while Kalea defended herself from outside threats, her people suffered in the wake of the battles. The ancient, mountainous Tolterra that had awoken to strike down the Arrival took no heed of the people below. Great swaths of land were reduced to dust and sand. Continents were divided while mountains churned and shattered. The great cities were lost, as were many lives with them. Like a vicious fever, Kalea purged itself of the Arrivals, but the cost was severe.
